A few months ago my boyfriend finally proposed. The first thing I did (after saying yes) was to go through my cell phone numbers contact list and text everyone the good news. Little did I know, my contact list was out of date. This is a problem. How do I get addresses for old friends who have gone off and taken the world by storm? Emily Post does not approve of a Facebook wedding invitation, nor would most mother-of the brides. I had to find an address and cell phone number for all of the would-be guests...and soon.
Step one is to call everyone you know and see if they have the cell phone numbers you are looking for. You can call their parents (if they're still living in the same house). But when that turns up dead ends, you turn to the great world wide web. I never realized how many cell phone and online directories on the web today! It seems there is a new directory every day. Some are free, some you pay a “small” fee, and some claim to be free, but first you have to sell your privacy and submit to calls and e-mails in exchange for the information you want. For now, the government protects citizen's rights to have an unlisted cell phone number. Therefore, it can be difficult to get people's numbers.
I was able to get everyone’s cell phone numbers using one cell phone directory or another. For a small price, I could even get their address and save myself the embarrassing call to ask their address (I’m their good friend, why wouldn’t I know this information already?) This technology is great. I’ve heard stories of people finding classmates for their 50th reunion reconnecting thanks to lease online directories. You can find long-lost boyfriends or girlfriends. You can even check to see what is out there about yourself.
